What drives us
We as a family would hope that all our customers would after experiencing our quality food and drink want to return and have the same served again. |
The Pickletillum Inn was first established as a coaching inn on the old St. Andrews to Ferryport (now part of Tayport) road circa 1732 to service the coaching traffic from the East Neuk going north and the Dundee, Angus areas going south. |
The name itself is derived from the old dialect spoken in north fife at the time. At the time of the Inn being opened the smiddy (blacksmiths forge) was a mile or so away in Forgan. As the horse drawn coaches arrived at the Inn they would have to have the horse shoes renewed from time to time and so the name was derived. The word "pickle" means a handful of nails for horse shoes and the "tillum" was the pronunciation for "to them". So Pickletillum stands for take a handful of nails to the Inn.
Now 300 years on the Pickletillum Inn is a busy family run country pub restaurant with a growing reputation for good traditional wholesome freshly cooked food with a variety of European and Asian cuisine added. We endevour where possible to cook from fresh using the best of ingredients.
