York is a great place to stay for a few nights as there is lots of history, culture and attractions for you to explore. York is well known for its connections with Roman Britain around 2000 years ago, in fact for a two year period the whole Roman Empire was governed from York by Septimius Severus. Just outside the city walls you will find the National Railway Museum which is the largest collection of railway locomotives in the world and includes the world's fastest steam locomotive LNER 4468 Mallard and the famous 4472 Flying Scotsman in its collection.
York has many gift shops, pubs, eating places and small independent boutique shops that you can browse looking for that unique purchase. The city is noted for its liability to flooding and you can choose to have a drink in the King's Arms, a pub that is often flooded, situated on the banks of the River Ouse.
