Lunch or evening meals may be obtained from popular venues literally yards from Fishermans Hall. Felixstowe Ferry also boasts a Sailing Club and Boatyard with launching facilities, and a footferry regularly crosses the Deben to Bawdsey where refreshment can also be sought in a small cafe. Freshly caught fish are also sold from two seperate stalls down near the ferry jetty. |
The Ferry area is particularly attractive for those enjoying a wide variety of outdoor pursuits. Walkers, Cyclists, sailors and fisher men and women are particularly welcome as storage facilities are available for equipment and a drying room for wet gear. The rich variety of bird and wildlife in the marsh and reed beds is a magnet, and all kinds of water sports are to be found on the Deben and its estuary. |
The area is also rich in historic tradition, from the two Napoloenic Martello towers based in the Ferry itself, to Landguard Fort guarding the Orwell estuary to the south of Felixstowe, and the great Saxon heritage site of Sutton Hoo located 8 miles to the north near the traditional Suffolk town of Woodbridge. Those looking for the excitement of city life need go no further than Felixstowe, a mile and a half ramble along the sea wall, or Ipswich with excellent communications to both.
