Bed and Breakfasts in Windermere
|
Lake Windermere is a popular tourist attraction in South Lakeland, Cumbria, and is the largest natural lake in England. Thanks to the beautiful scenery and laid back environment that the Lake District offers the town of Windermere has been a popular place for people to stay for many years.
Along with bed and breakfast accommodation in Windermere you also have the option of staying in Hotels and even boat accommodation. The bed and breakfasts in Windermere offer home from home accommodation and are a great option to ensure you get a hearty breakfast before spending the day exploring.
A strange fact about Windermere is it doesn't actually directly touch the Lake, its about a 15 minute walk to the lake, through the town of Bowness-on-Windermere. The town of Bowness-on-Windermere has joined up with Windermere over the years through growth in both towns but the two towns still have their distinguishable town centres.
Another fascinating fact is that the lake was originally named 'Winandermere', but thanks to a railway company thinking the name was too long and naming the nearby station 'Windermere' instead, then over they years the town and lake adopted the new name. The Windermere station offers excellent train and bus connections to the surrounding area, going to places such as Manchester Airport, Manchester and the West Coast Main Line.
Some of the attractions you can enjoy while staying in Windermere include the Windermere Steamboat Centre, World of Beatrix Potter, Orrest Head, Blackwell House and Ferry Nab. There are numerous places to eat, an abundance of places to stay and lots of gift shops you can leisurely browse. There is a pier in Bowness which is a main departure point for people wanting to take boat trips out on the lake. If you wish to get across to the other side of the lake without driving you can take the ferry which takes cars and foot passengers. |
